Dr. Michael Collins is a highly skilled podiatrist specializing in foot and ankle surgery at Girard Orthopaedic Surgeons Medical Group, Inc. With over a decade of experience, Dr. Collins is dedicated to providing comprehensive care for a wide range of foot and ankle disorders.
Dr. Collins earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine in 2011. Following his graduation, he completed a three-year residency in reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, under the mentorship of Drs. Michael Trepal and Kevin Jules. He joined Girard Orthopaedic Surgeons Medical Group in July 2015 and has since become an integral part of the team
Dr. Collins is certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine. He is also qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. His areas of expertise include bunions, hammertoes, hallux rigidus, sports injuries, ankle instability, Achilles ruptures, and fractures.
Dr. Collins is affiliated with several prominent hospitals, including Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista, and the Outpatient Surgery Center of La Jolla. He is known for his patient-centered care, working closely with each patient to develop personalized treatment plans that address their specific needs and goals.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Collins is an avid endurance athlete. He enjoys participating in marathons, ultra-marathons, trail running, triathlons, and velodrome racing. Notably, he has completed The Race Across America bicycle race as part of a two-man team and the race to the top of the Empire State Building.

I’ve had 3 surgeries on my foot performed by Dr Collins. I broke my foot, and he put a screw in, only for me to fall off my medical knee scooter, causing it to break again… The pain was unbearable, and I required yet another surgery just a week later. Later, I had a 3rd surgery to remove the hardware. It’s been a long road to get myself back to walking. Thanks to Dr Collins and his team, I’m so close to fully recovered. I can walk again, and I can bike around. I’m still not fully healed, but I will be able to jog with my dogs soon enough.

Dr. Collins performed surgery on my right foot about two years ago to correct a “bunion” (hallux valgus) problem. I had a modest bump on the side of my foot near the first toe but felt burning pain after standing for a couple of hours.
The surgery’s result exceeded my expectations. I did not have any pain during or after the surgery. Dr. Collins restricted my driving my car for one month after surgery. After a month, I started wearing my sports shoes and driving my car; in a few months, I returned to wearing my regular fancy high-heeled shoes.
Now, the surgery scar on the top of my foot is almost invisible. A nice, tiny pinkish line is left as a nice memory of my surgery.
Dr. Collins has an outstanding personality. He is gifted with professional intelligence and is very polite with his patients. Dr. Collins is always on time for appointments. He always makes you feel welcome during appointments by having a good mood and a nice sense of humor.
